Ghost Town
Spooked |
|
Spooked
is the Ghost's eighth album, produced by the legendary Van Dyke
Parks, composer/arranger for hundreds of Warner Brother’s
artists and
producer of albums by Ry Cooder, Randy Newman, and the late Phil Ochs.
“Spooked” is a beautifully
crafted album which serves as a tribute to the sounds the 20th Century
cut its teeth on. Spooked” is riddled with Parks’ particular
genius for tuning and arranging. His detailed attention to the
expression of the instruments allows for even greater emotional
resonance from the group, and his interweaving of styles by the order
of song shows an incredible gift for storytelling. In a way, listening
to Marley’s Ghost is akin to reading a selection of short essays from
Mark Twain.” – Larry Sakin, MyTown.ca

| Four Spacious Guys |

Released in 1996
"Marley's
Ghost can turn on a
dime, change their stripes and move as fast as any band in America.
When we all got together to talk about what kind of record to make
(because they could make many) a wonderful image became our guide: a
thin mist, tall fir trees, dappled light, smoke rising from a chimney,
the sound of the river in the distance and, inside, a few good friends
making music. So take a batch of bluegrass and Old Time String Band
music, add in some fine songwriting, some Cajun and Celtic spice and
great harmony singing and you'll be well on your way to knowing what
this record is all about... Four Spacious Guys playing the music they
love." – Nick Forster,

"Winner of the
honorable mention
NAIRD Indies award for Best Gospel Album of 1992. Here is one of the
most gratifying gospel collections that one would ever want to
encounter. Indicative of their remarkable talent, it is a continuation
of the Ghost's tradition transcending the realm of ordinary gospel
outings. Guest artists Barney McClure and Michael Shrieve lend their
spirits and singular talents to material ranging from the Golden Gate
Quartet and Soulstirrers to the Carter Family and Ralph Stanley.
Interpreted with distinct passion and zeal, this musical delicacy is a
truly special collection with a welcome message of inspiration." – Bluegrass Unlimited
