Sage Arts Studio is Up and Running

A year ago, a flood washed through the basement here at Sage Arts ruining the floors and soaking the walls of the recording studio and offices. Fortunately we lost no equipment, but flood recovery took some time as we took the opportunity to make improvements. All winter and spring, Sage Arts was under construction as the floor and lower walls were ripped out and rebuilt. We're back into the rainy season again, but we feel reasonably secure with our new drainage system. The studio was finally up and running in early summer.

Strains of music drift through the long hall from the recording studio to the refurbished office where I am typing the Sage Arts newsletter. Marley's Ghost has been in and out of the studio since August, working on the latest album. I've heard music being built, a layer at a time, as Marley's Ghost adds another instrument or vocal to the mix. It's an exciting time at Sage Arts and I'd like to tell you what's going on.

Sssshhh! It's a Secret

Sage Arts' biggest project right now is the new Marley's Ghost album. I will refer to it as MG8 since the title is still a secret. This exceptional album will feature Ghost originals as well as notable vintage songs that transcend time. Can't tell you what the song list is yet; that's a secret, too. But I can tell you this...continued on page 3

Van Dyke Parks Undercover

Van Dyke Parks is the dynamo that is producing Marley's Ghost's new CD.

Who is he? I'll try to tell you in one breath:

He's an American composer, arranger, producer and musician. Not only has he put out several albums of his own, he's worked with The Byrds, Randy Newman, Little Feat, Phil Ochs, Harry Nilsson, Arlo Guthrie, Bonnie Raitt, Harper's Bizarre, Judy Collins, Tim Buckley, Ringo Starr, Ry Cooder, the DBs, Joe Henry, U2, Fiona Apple, Rufus Wainright, Manhattan Transfer, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Vonda Shepard, Steve Poltz, Syd Straw, Gordon Lightfoot, Carly Simon, and many others, He's written TV and film music as diverse as "Sesame Street," "Melrose Place," "The Two Jakes," "Popeye" and "Private Parts."

Whew! And that's not all…... continued on page 4

Fast Forward to the Present

Van Dyke Parks is wrapping up the recording sessions at Sage Arts. He continues to give artistic direction while our expert sound engineers Daniel Protheroe and Matthew Gephart put in long hours mixing the sound. Here’s what Van Dyke has to say about Marley’s Ghost:  continued on page 5
