Wintergrass 2004 and
our Marley's Ghost Poster Coloring Contest |
|
Marley's Ghost made its second
appearance at Wintergrass 2004 in the Sheraton Hotel in Tacoma. This
big bluegrass event takes over the hotel complex for a weekend of
fabulous music with bands like Hot Rize, Seldom Scene, Robin and Linda Williams and
Marley's Ghost. Wintergrass is a festival for musicians and jamming
goes on in hotel rooms on every floor, in the halls and stairwells.
Heck, they're even jamming in the elevators! (And if you've never been
jammed in an elevator full of musicians, you don't know what you're
missing.)
"It was a fun time to be back at
Wintergrass and see all our pals from the Great Northwest," Mike Phelan
said. "We also got to and do some jamming and swap stories with our
pals from Back East."
The Ghosts played hard at this
festival. Not only did they perform on every stage, they hosted the
Sunday Gospel show all afternoon.
The Winners!!
Sage
Arts held a Marley's Ghost poster coloring contest, and the kids in the
Wintergrass children's activity room really got into it. Kids could
either color the poster or flip the paper over and make their own
original art. We received so many wild and wonderful entries that it
was really hard to judge.
Nick
Lewis of Warm Beach won the grand prize: a beginner guitar, complete
with gig bag, picks, strap, extra set of strings and an instruction
video. His sister, Michelle Lewis, won a Hohner harmonica. Mary and
Kristianna Anderson from Anderson Island also won harmonicas. Lena Beth
Schneider was gung ho for the Ghosts; she entered seven times and won a
t-shirt. T-shirts and cassettes went to Adrienne Wallace, Simon
Courtney, Kiah Comb, Saul Schneider and Rachel A.
Thanks
to all you budding artists that entered our contest!

Collection Moves In

Not far from Sage Arts is the new home
of the American Musical Heritage Foundation. This non-profit
organization is setting up its massive archival collection of more than
550,000 LPs, 78s and 45s. It's a facility where musicians, media
personalities or aficionados can research every aspect of music.
"I supply inspiration to musicians,"
says AMHF founder Glenn Howard whose musical clients have included
Bonnie Raitt, Branford Marsalis, Los Lobos, Maria Muldaur, The Grateful
Dead, and countless others.
AMHF looks forward to working with
Sage Arts musicians and chose its new location for its proximity to the
studio. "No studio on earth has this kind of resource," says Glenn, who
views this unique combination of a top notch recording studio and
unparalleled musical resource as Shangri-La for recording artists.
Once the collection is completely set
up, AMHF will be open for consultation by appointment. AMHF welcomes
tax-deductible donations of all kinds (including records) to keep the
organization growing and keep the facility open.
AMHF is a non-profit charitable
organization. Contact Glenn Howard or Laura Miltenberger at
360-691-2105 or
